We preach a lot about transparency.
If content is a conversation, and we want to build a relationship with our audience, then transparency in our marketing and communications is imperative. The risk? Transparency leads to vulnerability. But addressing our customers’ initial concerns is one of our priorities.
So let’s talk about one of the top 5 questions you have about us: How much do we cost?
How We Price Our Projects
Many customers tell us that they were surprised when they learned our rates. We’ve even heard, “Oh, we expected you to be more expensive,” or in a surprised and gratified way, “Oh you DO fit into our budget.”
It’s nice to have the reputation of being expensive, because we believe that shows that we’re known for high quality. And we do have a minimum engagement set at $5,000, so we can ensure that we can give our clients the service they deserve.
But, we often wonder if there are potential customers who would like to engage with us but are holding back because of budget concerns.
So here’s how we set scope:
- How many content modules are we going to write? (As we move toward structured content, we don’t want to lock ourselves into pages anymore; most modules are 500 words.)
- How many stakeholders or subject matter experts will we interview?
- How long will the project take?
And that’s it. If our client needs wiggle room, wants more content or needs to know what to prioritize, we can have a discussion. (We do use customized pricing for content strategy, email campaigns and auditing, depending on the size of the project).
